Abp. Demetrios Visits Thessaloniki, Honors Late Metr. Anthimos
Abp. Demetrios visited Thessaloniki, met with Metr. Philotheos, and will celebrate the feast of St. Athanasius on January 18.
THESSALONIKI — On Wednesday morning, Abp. Demetrios, former Archbishop of America, paid an official visit to the Holy Metropolis of Thessaloniki, where he was warmly welcomed by Metr. Philotheos. The hierarchs engaged in a cordial and fraternal discussion covering topics of mutual interest, including matters affecting the Greek diaspora in the United States.
During the visit, both Abp. Demetrios and Metr. Philotheos fondly recalled the late Metr. Anthimos of Thessaloniki, a close friend of Abp. Demetrios since their student years. The conversation highlighted the enduring bonds of friendship and shared commitment to the Church.
It was also announced that Abp. Demetrios will return on Sunday, January 18, to celebrate and deliver the homily at the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the Parish Church of St. Athanasius the Great, in honor of the feast of the saint, continuing his pastoral engagement with the Thessaloniki faithful.
