Critics Warn UN Pushes Abortion Access and LGBT Ideology for Children
The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child is considering a draft policy granting minors abortion access and promoting gender ideology, raising concerns about parental rights and child safety.
GENEVA — The United Nations’ Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) is reviewing a controversial draft policy that many critics say threatens parental authority and child safety. From January 12–30, the CRC is discussing revisions to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, including proposals to classify abortion access for minors and promotion of LGBT ideology as “children’s rights.”
Draft General Comment No. 27 calls for unrestricted access to abortion services for adolescent girls and urges states to adopt a “gender-transformative approach,” including recognition of gender identity claims without parental consent. Critics warn that promoting gender ideology to children carries serious psychological and physical risks, noting that most minors with gender dysphoria outgrow it and that interventions can exacerbate mental health issues.
Pro-family activists, including Chris Elston, argue that if adopted, the draft could pressure governments, schools, and hospitals worldwide to bypass parents, setting a global precedent for abortion and gender ideology policies affecting minors.
