Orthodoxy for Kids Launches Sophia Educational Videos
A new animated series seeks to make Orthodox Christian teaching accessible and engaging for young children online.
NEW YORK — A newly established nonprofit organization has launched an animated educational series aimed at introducing young children to Orthodox Christianity through digital media. Orthodoxy for Kids recently announced the debut of Sophia, an animated series designed for children ages 3–6 that teaches prayers, hymns, feast days, the Sacraments, and daily church life through short, engaging videos.
The project was developed in response to a shortage of online Orthodox educational resources for young children, a need that became especially apparent during the COVID-19 pandemic. The nonprofit operates under the motto “Learning Orthodoxy Can Be Fun” and seeks to support families in home-based faith formation.
Archimandrite Chrysostomos Gilbert of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese’s Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New York described Sophia as a gentle and relatable guide for children beginning their spiritual journey. The series also includes downloadable coloring sheets to reinforce lessons. The Sophia website states that it is sponsored by Leadership 100, which exists to support national ministries of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
