The Trump administration has dramatically expanded the Mexico City Policy to cut abortion, DEI, and gender ideology from U.S. foreign aid.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump has issued sweeping new restrictions expanding the Mexico City Policy, sharply limiting U.S. taxpayer funding for abortion, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, and gender ideology programs overseas. The changes were unveiled by Vice President J.D. Vance during the March for Life and formally issued this week by the State Department.

The expanded policy applies to all non-military foreign assistance, totaling roughly $30 billion, including humanitarian aid. Pro-life advocates say the move closes long-standing loopholes and effectively ends direct and indirect U.S. support for foreign abortion providers. The rules also extend for the first time to bilateral aid through foreign governments and voluntary contributions to multilateral organizations such as the United Nations.

Vance said the administration is restoring accountability to foreign policy, arguing that U.S. aid should promote “families and human flourishing” rather than abortion or gender ideology. The new directives take effect in 30 days and may face legal challenges.

Previously, the UOJ reported that the Trump administration moved to ban federally funded transgender procedures for minors.
