Abp. Daniel to Lead Spiritual Journey Through Romania

CHICAGO, IL — A spiritual pilgrimage to Romania has been announced for September 15–22, led by His Eminence Abp. Daniel of Chicago and the Midwest, alongside Archpriest Paul Jannakos. Pilgrims will journey to northern Romania, exploring regions such as Bukovina, Maramureș, and Moldavia, where Orthodox faith, history, and monastic life have thrived for centuries. The pilgrimage highlights Romania’s rich monastic heritage. In Bukovina, travelers will visit painted monasteries dating back to the 15th–16th centuries, including Voroneț and Sucevița, renowned for their exterior frescoes depicting biblical themes. In Maramureș, the Bârsana Monastery stands out as a “wooden miracle,” built entirely without nails, exemplifying traditional craftsmanship and Orthodox devotion expressed through architecture.
Pilgrims will also explore Neamț Monastery, the oldest in Moldavia, and venerate saints such as Daniil the Hesychast, St. Paraskeva the New in Iași, and St. John the New of Suceava. The journey offers a living encounter with Orthodoxy, where prayer, history, and the presence of saints continue to shape spiritual life.
