ENGLEWOOD, NJ — A new review by Metr. Saba Isper highlights the enduring spiritual legacy of Sister Siluana Vlad through her book God, Where is the Wound? Published by Sebastian Publishing in 2022, the volume gathers three talks delivered in Germany in 2012 and reflects deeply on trauma, grace, and healing in modern life.
Born in 1944 during the Second World War, Mother Siluana endured a youth marked by spiritual emptiness before discovering Christ. Deeply influenced by St. Silouan the Athonite, she later founded the Monastery of St. Silouan the Athonite in Iași, Romania and dedicated herself to youth ministry and spiritual counseling. She reposed in 2021.
In his review, Metr. Saba emphasizes her integration of psychology and Orthodox theology, particularly her insight that unhealed trauma must be consciously offered to God in what she calls the “body of prayer.” The book addresses depression, anxiety, addiction, and inherited family wounds, urging readers toward repentance and transformation through divine grace.
He concludes that the work is especially valuable for educators, pastors, and spiritual guides seeking to understand the wounded heart of contemporary man.
