NEW YORK — On Monday, February 16, the feast of the Holy Equal-of-the-Apostles Nicholas of Japan, Metr. Nicholas of Eastern America & New York celebrated Divine Liturgy at the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign on the occasion of his namesday.

Concelebrating with His Eminence were Abp. Gabriel of Montreal & Canada, Bps. Theodosius of Manhattan, Spyridon of Toronto, and Jerome (Shaw), along with a host of Synodal, diocesan, and visiting clergy. In the altar prayed Archimandrites, Archpriests, Abbot Zosimas, Hieromonks, and deacons from parishes across the Eastern American Diocese, while the Synodal choir, directed by Isaiah Trofimenko, led the singing. Liturgy was held under the protection of the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God.

At the conclusion of the service, a moleben was served to St. Nicholas of Japan. Abp. Gabriel congratulated the Metropolitan, praising the Church Abroad’s missionary work and the growth of parishes in America. Messages from Patr. Kyrill of Moscow & All Russia and other hierarchs were also read. The celebration concluded with a festal meal and the presentation of a newly published liturgical guide.

Previously, the UOJ reported that Metr. Nicholas visited the ROCOR mission in Sosúa.
