Russian Shelling Damages Ukrainian Cathedral on Christmas Day
Main dome struck during January 7 attack; no casualties reported, according to the Kherson Diocese.
KHERSON — On January 7, 2026, the feast of the Nativity of Christ, Russian forces shelled the Holy Spirit Cathedral in the city of Kherson. The incident was reported by the Information and Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, citing the press service of the Kherson Diocese.
According to the report, one of the shells struck the cathedral’s main dome, while another landed on the church grounds. Diocesan officials stated that no injuries were reported as a result of the attack.
Previously, UOJ reported that a Russian drone strike killed a UOC archpriest.
