St. Olga’s Closet Celebrates First House Blessing
St. Tikhon’s Seminary blesses launch of St. Olga’s Closet, an independent ministry providing essential goods and support to seminarians and their families.
WAYMART, PA — St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary has helped mark the launch of St. Olga’s Closet, a fully independent non-profit ministry supporting seminarians and their families, with its first house blessing. The gathering brought together several seminary families and staff members with Fr. John Parker, dean of the seminary, to bless the newly acquired space.
St. Olga’s Closet provides material assistance to seminarians of St. Tikhon’s, offering clothing, baby supplies, housewares, food, and other essentials for daily living, as well as emergency support when needed. The ministry is named after St. Olga of Kwethluk, remembered for her quiet generosity and Christ-like care for others, particularly children in need.
A vacant building located about five miles from the seminary will serve as the distribution center for donated goods. St. Olga’s Closet will be open every third Saturday in spring 2026, and by appointment, strengthening community support for those preparing for ministry.
While three of the individuals who started the ministry also work for St. Tikhon's Seminary, St. Olga's Closet is entirely its own entity and operates independently from the seminary.
Previously, the UOJ reported that the Russian Orthodox Church added St. Olga of Alaska to its liturgical calendar.
