Abp. John Preaches Mercy and Repentance in Tirana
Abp. John taught that the Sunday of the Prodigal Son calls all believers to repentance, mercy, and spiritual renewal.
TIRANA, ALBANIA — On Sunday, February 8, 2026, the Divine Services at the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Tirana were celebrated by Abp. John of Tirana, Durrës, and All Albania on the Second Sunday of the Triodion. The liturgy centered on the Parable of the Prodigal Son, emphasizing repentance, responsibility, and God’s boundless love.
In his sermon, Abp. John reflected on the spiritual journey represented by the Triodion period, highlighting that true freedom comes not from indulgence but from life in communion with God. He explained that departing from the Father’s house symbolizes life enslaved by sin, while “coming to oneself” marks the beginning of authentic repentance, expressed in both inner transformation and concrete action.
The Archbishop also focused on the compassionate Father, who runs to meet his returning son, illustrating that God’s justice is rooted in mercy and love. He encouraged the faithful to embrace hope and renewal during this season of reflection and spiritual purification.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Abp. John was named Albania's person of the year.
