Metr. Epiphanios of Thira has reposed at 92 after decades of pastoral and philanthropic service.

KATAPOLA, GREECE — Metr. Epiphanios (Artemis), former hierarch of the Diocese of Thira, Amorgos, and Nisoi of the Church of Greece, reposed in the Lord on the first day of Great Lent at the age of 92.

In a tribute, the Metropolis of Thira described him as “a teacher of truth, a minister of the Mysteries of God, a spiritual father for the people, a model of humility and self-sacrifice,” noting his decades of pastoral and philanthropic service throughout the Cyclades. His funeral will be held February 25 at the Church of St. George in Katapola, Amorgos.

Born in 1934 in Vroutsi, Amorgos, he was ordained deacon in 1958 and priest in 1964, the year he graduated from the University of Athens Theological School. He served as abbot of the Holy Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa from 1965 to 2003 before his election as Metropolitan in 2003. He resigned in 2021 due to advanced age.

Previously, the UOJ reported that Patr. Daniel commemorated Grandpa Dobri on the eighth anniversary of his repose.
