Abp. Alexei to Lead Lenten Retreat on Last Judgment Across Alaska
A Lenten retreat in Alaska will invite Orthodox faithful to reflect on the Last Judgment and God’s mercy through the teaching of Abp. Alexei.
ANCHORAGE, AK — The Russian Orthodox Diocese of Sitka and Alaska of the Orthodox Church in America has announced a series of Lenten retreats with Abp. Alexei of Sitka and Alaska focused on the themes of repentance, judgment, and divine mercy.
Titled At the Threshold of Eternity, the retreat will reflect on the fearsome judgment of God and the mercy of Christ. Abp. Alexei will use an 18th-century Moscow broadside depicting the Last Judgment as a starting point to explore both the historical context of the image and the spiritual lessons it offers Orthodox Christians today during Great Lent.
The talks invite the faithful to consider the reality of eternity and how the expectation of the Last Judgment should shape daily life, repentance, and preparation for Christ. Organizers say the retreat aims to deepen spiritual reflection during the Lenten season.
The retreat will be held in three locations across Alaska: Kenai on March 14 following the Divine Liturgy; Anchorage at 11 a.m. on March 28; and Fairbanks on April 4 following the Divine Liturgy. All are welcome to attend.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Abp. Alexei celebrated Nativity in Anchorage and called the faithful to make room for Christ.
