Patr. Bartholomew Receives OCU Clergy and Mt. Athos Abbot
The Ecumenical Patriarch met with the Esphigmenou abbot and OCU clergy who presented a Ukrainian translation of the monastery’s theological work.
ISTANBUL — Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew received Archimandrite Bartholomew, abbot of the Holy Monastery of Esphigmenou, during a meeting at the Ecumenical Patriarchate on Thursday, July 23, 2026. The abbot was accompanied by members of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU).
During the audience, the OCU clergy presented Patr. Bartholomew with the Ukrainian translation of a book published by the Holy Monastery of Esphigmenou. The work, titled “Characteristic of the Ecclesiological Following,” was translated into Ukrainian and highlights the monastery’s theological reflections on Orthodox ecclesiology and Church life.
The meeting brought together representatives of the Athonite monastery and the OCU clergy for an exchange focused on Orthodox literature and theological discussion. The presentation of the translated publication was part of efforts to make Orthodox writings from the Greek tradition accessible to Ukrainian-speaking faithful.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Patr. Bartholomew welcomed Patr. Theophilos III to the Phanar.
