Patr. Bartholomew Welcomes Patr. Theophilos III to the Phanar

ISTANBUL — Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew welcomed Patr. Theophilos III of Jerusalem to the Ecumenical Patriarchate on July 21 during a fraternal visit that included discussions on inter-Orthodox relations and the plight of Christians in the Holy Land.

Patr. Theophilos traveled to the Phanar in response to invitations previously extended by Patr. Bartholomew. Upon his arrival, he was received by clergy of the Patriarchal Court, led by Metr. Gregory of Ankyra, as the bells of the Ecumenical Patriarchate rang in welcome. After venerating the Patriarchal Church of St. George, the Jerusalem primate proceeded to the Patriarchal House, where the two church leaders met in the Throne Room alongside hierarchs, clergy, and members of their respective delegations.

The two Patriarchs later held a private meeting to discuss matters affecting the Orthodox Church and other issues of mutual concern. During their conversation, Patr. Bartholomew reiterated the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s concern for Christians in the Holy Land and expressed hope that peace would prevail throughout the conflict-stricken Middle East for the benefit of all its peoples.

Following the talks, Patr. Bartholomew hosted a dinner in honor of Patr. Theophilos and his delegation. According to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Jerusalem Patriarch is scheduled to return to his see on July 22.
