St. Thekla Orthodox Church near Houston has purchased a property for a future temple and begun renovation work.
RICHMOND, TX — St. Thekla Orthodox Church in the greater Houston area has purchased a new property that it plans to renovate and convert into a church building, according to an announcement shared by the parish.
The community held its first workday on October 20, with parishioners gathering to begin repairs and improvements to the property. The mission said that work would continue as it prepared the building to become its new temple.
In the meantime, liturgical services and other spiritual activities will continue at the community’s current location at 2201 Thompson Road in Richmond.
St. Thekla Mission serves Fort Bend County and describes itself as a growing Orthodox Christian community. As it develops, the mission is directing its financial resources toward several needs, including outreach, community growth, and liturgical items for Orthodox worship.
The parish is asking supporters to contribute to its building fund to help cover the renovations needed for the new property. It also welcomes donations toward liturgical items and requests that donors include the names of living and departed people they wish the church to remember in prayer.
