Metr. Theoliptos is being remembered as a devoted hierarch who helped shape the life and ministry of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

ISTANBUL — The Ecumenical Patriarchate has announced the repose of Metr. Theoliptos of Iconium, who passed away unexpectedly on June 18. The announcement was issued by the Chief Secretariat of the Holy and Sacred Synod and was accompanied by expressions of sorrow from Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the hierarchs residing in Constantinople.

On Friday morning, Patr. Bartholomew celebrated a Trisagion service in the Patriarchal Church for the repose of the late Metropolitan’s soul. Hierarchs of the Ecumenical Throne, clergy of the Patriarchal Court, and faithful gathered to pray for the departed Metropolitan, whose service to the Ecumenical Patriarchate spanned both administrative responsibilities at the Patriarchate and his episcopal ministry as Metropolitan of Iconium.

Following news of his death, the resident hierarchs convened an extraordinary meeting under the chairmanship of the Ecumenical Patriarch. During the session, participants reflected on Metr. Theoliptos’ life, character, and contributions to the Church before offering prayers for his eternal rest.
