Animated Video for Students Celebrates Life of St. Tikhon
Along with the video, Orthodox Journeys has released church school curriculum on the saint.
MINNEAPOLIS — With the 100th anniversary of the repose of St. Tikhon, the Apostle to America and Patriarch of Moscow, taking place back in April, and the feast day of his glorification taking place on Oct. 9, Orthodox Journeys has released an educational video along with church school curriculum to educate on and celebrate the life of the great saint.
According to its website, "Orthodox Journeys began in 2020 as a response to the needs of local parishes during the Covid-19 pandemic looking for engaging and easy to use resources for young people and families." Orthodox Journeys continues to create resources "to help nurture a perspective keeping our Orthodox Christian Faith alive and vibrant wherever you may be: at home, at school, work, on vacation, at church, or in the world."
The new curriculum includes more than 150 pages of content with 13 different activities for students grades K-12. The video that goes along with it is 42 minutes in length.
“Saint Tikhon is an inspiring modern-day saint in the Orthodox Church,” said David Lucs, CEO of Orthodox Journeys, in a press release from the organization. “His missionary work in North America was visionary for the times and is valuable for people of all ages to know about today.”
The curriculum is divided by grade levels K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12, in order to facilitate age-appropriate conversations about St. Tikhon's life. Activities work hand-in-hand with the video, and family discussion guides and study guides are included.
“Watching a video is a great way to be introduced to St. Tikhon’s life,” Lucs added. “This curriculum takes what is shown in the video and makes the connection to our lives, identifying ways that we as Orthodox Christians can continue St. Tikhon’s legacy in our local parishes. Accepting the Great Commission is our shared responsibility in today’s world.”
This release marks Orthodox Journey's fifth curriculum and first animated video. The previous four are "Growing through Scriptures," "Living a Sacramental Life," "The Great Feasts," and "Celebrating the Triodion and Pentecostarion."
Previously, UOJ reported that the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Education Ministry had released new Lesson Launch resources to accompany this year’s curriculum, "A People Set Apart," based on the Book of Exodus.
