Patr. Porfirije Addresses Gender Ideology Debate
Dr. Margaret Peters’ book on gender ideology was presented in Belgrade, featuring a message from Patr. Porfirije expressing concern over its cultural impact.
BELGRADE, SERBIA — The book Gender Revolution – A Global Agenda? by Dr. Margaret Peters was presented February 10, 2026, in the crypt of the Temple of St. Sava in Vračar. The event drew clergy and faithful for discussion of contemporary cultural issues addressed in the publication.
Patr. Porfirije of Serbia was unable to attend, but his written address was read by Bp. Hilarion of Novo Brdo. In his message, the Patriarch expressed concern about what he described as the global “gender revolution,” saying it challenges the traditional Christian understanding of the human person and vocation. He emphasized that human identity, the body, and family life are rooted in divine providence and are not accidental or interchangeable realities.
The Patriarch also warned of what he sees as the impact of gender ideology on family life and language, stating that such approaches are inconsistent with established Serbian linguistic scholarship and the Church’s teaching on the human person.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Patr. Porfirije stated that "Christian life must be a life in Christ."
