Chicago Cathedral to Host Evening on 20th-Century Serbian History

CHICAGO — Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago will host an evening dedicated to modern Serbian history on Sunday, November 15, featuring four historians from the Institute for Contemporary History in Belgrade. The program, titled “The Serbian 20th Century: Golgotha and Resurrection,” will begin at 5 p.m. with the blessing of Metr. Longin.

Dr. Milan Gulić, Dr. Milutin Živković, Dr. Srđan Cvetković, and Dr. Nemanja Dević will address several significant and contested chapters in Serbia’s recent history. Their presentations will focus on communism and anti-communism, Serbian victims and the genocide committed in the Independent State of Croatia (NDH), and the Serbian Question today.

The event will bring together historical scholarship, Orthodox Christian memory, and discussion of contemporary issues. Organizers said the evening is intended for parishioners as well as members of the broader community interested in Serbian history, faith, and the future.

Following the presentations, attendees will have an opportunity to meet the historians during an open question-and-answer session and community discussion. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase after the program.

The event will take place at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, located at 5701 N. Redwood Drive in Chicago. Admission will be open to the community, and all are welcome to attend.
