Huffington Ecumenical Institute to Mark Patr. Bartholomew's 35th Anniversary

BROOKLINE, MA — The Huffington Ecumenical Institute at Hellenic College Holy Cross will commemorate the 35th anniversary of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew's enthronement with a two-day colloquium in September examining the breadth of his patriarchal ministry and its impact on contemporary Orthodoxy and global religious life.

Scheduled for Sept. 14-15 at the Maliotis Cultural Center in Brookline, the event will bring together scholars, clergy, and lay leaders to reflect on the Ecumenical Patriarch's leadership in areas ranging from inter-Orthodox relations and ecumenical dialogue to environmental advocacy, social ethics, and pastoral ministry. The colloquium will be held under the auspices of Abp. Elpidophoros of America.

The opening day will feature presentations on the Ecumenical Patriarch's ecclesial and ecumenical initiatives, including discussions of the 2016 Holy and Great Council in Crete, Orthodox unity efforts in North America, inter-Christian dialogue, and interreligious engagement. Evening sessions will focus on social concerns championed by the Patriarch, including environmental stewardship, human trafficking, human rights, religious liberty, and Orthodox social teaching.

The second day will examine the Patriarch's pastoral and cultural legacy, with presentations addressing his roots on Imbros, his support for liturgical renewal, his engagement with pilgrimage traditions, and his relationship with the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

Organizers said the registration-only event will be available both in person and online, with recordings and livestream access provided to participants.
