Camp St. Nicholas Welcomes 300 Campers for Three Summer Sessions

FRAZIER PARK, CA — Camp St. Nicholas welcomed 300 campers over three sessions this summer, bringing children and teens from parishes across the Diocese of Los Angeles and the West together for Christian education, prayer, fellowship, and outdoor activities.

The three-week program ran from July 12 through August 1 and marked the first summer for the camp's new leadership team. Camp Director Jack Corbin was joined by Operations Director Benjamin Lengyel-Leahu, Programs Director Deena Salameh, and a support team of 26 staff members.

Throughout the summer, campers explored the Archdiocese's 2026 theme, “You shall serve the Lord your God,” through Christian education and other activities. In a workshop on the lives of the saints, participants learned about St. Dionysios, known for his forgiveness and mercy. The lesson culminated in campers washing one another's feet as an expression of humility, service, and Christian love.

One of the summer's most moving events was a “prayer tour,” during which the teen campers prayed for one another's families, friends, personal journeys, and departed loved ones. The activity offered participants an opportunity to turn the camp's emphasis on community into a shared act of intercession.

The campers also enjoyed an evening campfire, an activity that is not always possible in the California mountains. They gathered to roast s'mores and sing campfire songs, further strengthening the fellowship that organizers said characterized the three sessions.

The summer concluded with memories of prayer, service, friendship, and a community built around unity and love.
