Cardinal Dolan Named 2026 Athenagoras Human Rights Award Recipient
Cardinal Dolan will receive the 2026 Athenagoras Human Rights Award at an October 17 ceremony in New York.
NEW YORK — The Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate have announced that His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop Emeritus of New York, will receive the 2026 Athenagoras Human Rights Award at a ceremony on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
The event will take place at the New York Hilton Midtown in New York City. The annual award is presented by the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to recognize individuals whose work reflects a commitment to human rights and religious freedom.
Cardinal Dolan, who served as Archbishop of New York from 2009 until his retirement in 2025, will be honored as the 2026 recipient. The announcement was made by the Archons on August 26.
The organization said that an official announcement and separate invitation for the event will be issued at a later date. Further details concerning the October ceremony are therefore expected to follow.
