New Orthodox Book Challenges Gender Theory from Theological Perspective
Dr. Jean-Claude Larchet offers a faith-based response to rising cultural shifts.
JUNE 12, 2025 — In response to the rapid rise of transgender ideology and its growing influence in Western society, Holy Trinity Publications (HTP) has announced the forthcoming release of “Renewing Gender: An Orthodox Perspective” by noted theologian Dr. Jean-Claude Larchet. The book marks the first comprehensive Orthodox Christian critique of contemporary gender theory published in English.
Dr. Larchet holds doctorates in philosophy and theology from University of Nancy and University of Strasbourg, respectively, and taught philosophy for nearly 35 years. He has authored more than 35 books and numerous articles, with his writings being translated into 19 languages. This particular work was translated into English by Archibald Andrew Torrance.

He argues that Orthodox Christianity affirms the inherent equality and complementary nature of the sexes, offering a spiritual vision of human identity rooted in communion with God.
