The controversial case was postponed after one of the judges called in sick.

KYIV — Today, September 30, 2025, the Sixth Administrative Court of Appeal was scheduled to hear the lawsuit filed by the State Service for Ethnopolitics seeking to terminate the activities of the Kyiv Metropolis of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). However, the hearing did not take place due to the illness of one of the judges.

“In connection with the fact that one of the members of the panel fell ill just yesterday, and in order to avoid requiring another judge to urgently review the entire body of case materials, it was decided to cancel today’s hearing,” the presiding judge told those present.

Several hundred faithful of the UOC had gathered around the courthouse — though they were forbidden to enter the hearing itself. They received the news of the postponement of the case with a mix of tension and jubilation. The next session will take place in a month, on October 30.

Earlier, UOJ-USA reported that a prominent Republican official had appealed to the judges on the eve of the hearing concerning the UOC.
