The Serpent's Old Promise

Behind socialism's promise to abolish suffering lies an ancient temptation: the belief that man can perfect creation without its Creator.

The Denver Post’s enthusiastic but still surprised-sounding endorsement of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) candidate Melat Kiros (running as a Democrat for Colorado’s 1st District in Denver) reflects the speed with which Socialists have risen to prominence in the current U.S. election season.

“Melat Kiros wants to make the world a better place, and she has a plan to do it,” the Post’s editorial board wrote recently.

The DSA’s radical agenda, to which Kiros subscribes, “sounds scary… because it is,” the paper added. “But Kiros won our endorsement with her drive, determination and sheer intellectual might.”

Kiros’ socialist credentials gained prominence nationally in tandem with DSA Democrat Darializa Avila Chevalier, running for the 13th Congressional District in New York, supported by DSA-aligned Mayor Mamdani in New York City. Mamdani has mingled plaudits for Avila Chavalier with positive shout-outs to the late New York Socialist U.S. Rep. Vito Marcantonio, who ran afoul of American anticommunism in the 1950s.
