Over 40 Baptized at Ugbaikyo Parish in Nigeria
Forty-two catechumens were baptized in Nigeria, marking a major step in the growth of Orthodox Christianity in the Benue State region.
UGBAIKYO, NIGERIA — More than 40 people were baptized last week at the parish of Holy Great Martyr George the Victory-Bearer, part of the Russian Orthodox Church’s Exarchate of Africa.
On Thursday, March 26, Fr. Daniel Agbaza led the Sacrament of Baptism for 42 children and adults. Each had completed roughly six months of catechetical instruction under Fr. Daniel and catechist Augustin Orapine, preparing them to join the Orthodox Church.
The day prior, Fr. Daniel visited the parish of St. Seraphim of Sarov Church, where he discussed the fundamentals of the Orthodox faith with a group of catechumens, most of whom were previously Protestant. The events reflect growing interest in Orthodox Christianity across Benue State and the wider Exarchate of Africa.
Previously, the UOJ reported that a wave of conversions continued with a mass baptism in Houston.
