The U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi congratulated the Georgian Orthodox Church on Patr. Shio's election, calling it a historic milestone.

TBILISI — The U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi extended its “most heartfelt congratulations” to the Georgian Orthodox Church and its faithful following the election of His Holiness and Beatitude Shio III as Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, describing the moment as historic.

The embassy statement emphasized that this is the first patriarchal election since Georgia regained independence, framing it as a significant milestone in the country’s post-Soviet religious and national development.

"We wish him great success and look forward to engaging the Georgian Orthodox Church—one of the world’s oldest Christian denominations—on the advancement of our shared cultural and civilizational objectives," the embassy concluded.

Previously, the UOJ reported that Bp. Saba congratulated Patr. Shio on his election.
