BROADVIEW HEIGHTS, OH — The Orthodox Church in America’s (OCA) Diocese of the Midwest concluded its 65th Diocesan Assembly on October 7 at Archangel Michael Church in Broadview Heights, Ohio, following three days of prayer, administrative meetings, elections and discussion.

Abp. Daniel of Chicago and the Diocese of the Midwest presided over the October 5–7 gathering. Participants began Monday evening with the Akathist before the Chicago Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God. Abp. Daniel welcomed clergy and faithful following the service, and a reception was held on the church property.

Tuesday’s agenda included reports from the diocesan chancellor, treasurer, auditors, departments, and deaneries. Participants also elected members to fill vacancies on the Diocesan Council, Metropolitan Council, and Auditors Committee. A panel discussion addressed challenges facing growing Orthodox communities, and the day concluded with Great Vespers.

The final day began with a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy celebrated by Abp. Daniel, assisted by Archpriest Herman Kincaid, the diocesan chancellor, former chancellors, district deans, and other local clergy. Archpriest Gregory Ealy directed the choir, while Archpriest Andrew Jarmus delivered the sermon.

Following the Liturgy, Abp. Daniel installed the newly elected members of the Diocesan Council, formally concluding the assembly’s liturgical and administrative proceedings.

Previously, the UOJ reported that Abp. Daniel issued a pastoral letter on the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
