Libertyville Parish to Host Three-Day Icon Painting Workshop
A three-day workshop in Illinois will give participants the opportunity to learn the sacred craft of Byzantine iconography from a master iconographer.
LIBERTYVILLE, IL — The Serbian Orthodox Diocese of New Gračanica and Midwestern America has announced a three-day iconography workshop that will introduce participants to the traditional Byzantine method of painting sacred icons under the guidance of a master iconographer.
The workshop, scheduled for July 31 through Aug. 2, will be held at St. Demetrios Church in Libertyville, Illinois. Participants will paint an icon of Christ the Good Shepherd while learning the spiritual symbolism and technical methods that have shaped Orthodox iconography for centuries. The program is open to both experienced artists and beginners interested in exploring the Church's sacred artistic tradition.
Instruction will be led by Master Iconographer Dražen Dupor, who will provide step-by-step, hands-on guidance throughout the three-day course. Organizers said enrollment is intentionally limited to allow for individualized instruction and close interaction with the instructor.
The workshop will meet Friday evening, continue with a full day of instruction on Saturday, and conclude Sunday afternoon. Those interested in attending are encouraged to register early because of the limited number of available spaces. The diocese said the event is intended to offer participants both practical artistic training and a deeper appreciation of the spiritual vocation of Orthodox iconography.
