Relics of St. Anne to Be Brought to Romania for First Time

BUCHAREST, ROMANIA — The relics of St. Anne from Koutloumousiou Monastery on Mt. Athos will be brought to Romania for the first time in September, where they will be available for veneration at the New “Saint George” Church in Bucharest from Sept. 5-10.

A delegation of five monks from Mt. Athos is scheduled to arrive at Henri Coandă International Airport in Otopeni at approximately 3 p.m. on Sept. 5. The reliquary will then be transported to the church in central Bucharest. The full schedule of services and other events is expected to be announced later.

Fr. Emil Nedelea Cărămizaru, parish priest of the New “Saint George” Church, said the visit is being organized in honor of the Holy Brâncoveanu Martyrs and St. Maria Brâncoveanu, who are associated with the church as its patrons and founders.

Koutloumousiou Monastery preserves the entire right foot of St. Anne. Other portions of her relics are kept at the Skete of St. Anne and Stavronikita Monastery on Mt. Athos, as well as in churches and monasteries in the Middle East, Cyprus, and Italy.

Previously, the UOJ reported that three previously unknown copies of the Ostrog Bible were discovered on Mt. Athos.
