Serbian Orthodox Youth Gather at St. Sava Monastery in Libertyville

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — The Holy Resurrection Cathedral Summer Camp of Holy Resurrection Cathedral (HRSOC) traveled this week to St. Sava Monastery for a field trip that brought together youth from Chicago and Milwaukee. During the visit, campers from HRSOC and the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of Milwaukee shared time in fellowship, prayer, and structured activities across the monastery grounds, with groups moving between indoor programming spaces and outdoor gathering areas.

The gathering was also viewed in light of the legacy of St. Mardarije of Libertyville, whose early efforts in the 20th century helped establish the monastery as a center of diocesan life. Organizers and participants pointed to ongoing developments on the property, including the nearing completion of the St. Mardarije Cultural Center, as part of a longer-term effort to support education, formation, and community life on the site.

Separately, organizers noted that the summer camp program hosted at St. Sava Academy has expanded to five weeks this year and continues to see steady participation. The season will continue next week with a scheduled visit from Their Royal Highnesses Prince Philip and Princess Danica Karađorđević of Serbia on Tuesday, June 23, at 11:00 a.m., which will include a brief meet-and-greet with campers.
