Defense of The Faith
In Defense of St. Thomas
His doubt gave way to a bold confession of Christ’s divinity—and a witness to the Resurrection that still strengthens the Church.
He touched the wounds of the resurrected Christ, he was sent by Jesus to India as a slave, he taught King Gondophares how to convert wealth in this life into eternal splendour, he witnessed the ascension of the Theotokos and was given her belt, and he was martyred on Parangi Malai.
So why do we remember him as the Doubter?
Each apostle doubted the resurrection, even when given eyewitness testimony. So he is similar to every apostle in that he only believed when he saw the resurrected Christ himself.
