IOCC Volunteers Restore Flood-Damaged Home on Pine Island

After repeated hurricane devastation, partnership efforts help Florida resident rebuild stronger and safer.
PINE ISLAND, FL — Following the devastating impacts of Hurricane Ian in 2022 and Hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024, many Florida residents faced repeated flooding and long-term recovery challenges.
Camilla, a local homeowner, returned from evacuation to find her home severely damaged and in urgent need of repairs she couldn’t complete alone.
In response, the International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC), in collaboration with the Greater Pine Island Alliance, mobilized volunteers to help. The team installed a specialized waterproof drywall alternative – a technically complex solution designed to better withstand future flooding.
With their support, Camilla’s home has now been restored to near pre-flood conditions and reinforced to handle potential stormwater threats going forward, giving her a renewed sense of security and stability.
