“Structures of Faith: The Holy Sepulchre Church Over Time” will explore the architectural and spiritual evolution of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

JUNE 11, 2025 — This August, St. Vladimir’s Online School of Theology will offer a four-week course that traces the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem from its origins in the time of Jesus to the most recent archaeological discoveries.

“This four-week online course invites participants to examine how the physical transformations of this sacred space reflect and inform the enduring realities of Christian faith,” the online school’s website states.

With live Zoom sessions held each Tuesday from August 5-26 at 8-8:45 p.m. ET, the class will be accessible from July 29 - September 30.

The course fee is $200, and no refunds are offered after July 28.

Dr. Roberta R. Ervine, Professor of Armenian Christian Studies, will be the course instructor. Ervine was a devoted student of Armenian Bishops Norayr Bogharian and Guregh Kapikian. She spent several years teaching at the Holy Translators School and presenting lectures throughout Jerusalem before joining the faculty at Saint Nersess Armenian Seminary in Armonk, New York. Ervine earned her Ph.D. from Columbia University.

The course will be split up into four parts for each week:

  1. Tracing the Origins: From Christ to Constantine
  2. Hunting for Constantine: Outside the Holy Sepulchre Church
  3. Following the Trail of Stone: Inside the Holy Sepulchre Church
  4. Structuring Faith: The Choreography of Prayer at the Holy Sepulchre Church
