St. Tikhon’s to Host Crash Course in the 8 Tones with Dr. Vladimir Morosan

Three-day workshop to introduce history, structure, and singing of Orthodox chant traditions.
WAYMART, PA — St. Tikhon’s Monastery will welcome musicologist and conductor Dr. Vladimir Morosan in September for a three-day crash course on the Eight Tones, offering both beginners and experienced singers practical instruction in Orthodox chant.
Participants will learn Kievan and Obikhod tones through sessions on history, form, structure, and application, as well as hands-on training in melodies, harmonies, pitching the choir, and singing from pointed text. The workshop aims to equip attendees with the confidence to return to their choirs ready to sing any tone.
Sessions will be held September 19-21 in the St. Tikhon’s Monastery Music Center, with a full schedule including instructional sessions, Divine Services, and a Q&A presentation with Dr. Morosan. Registration closes September 10, with a discounted student rate available.
Dr. Morosan is founder of the Orthodox Sacred Music Reference Library and Archangel Voices, with extensive experience as a conductor, composer, and educator in Orthodox liturgical music.
