Metropolis authorities in Chicago launch a financial review of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church while emphasizing pastoral care and transparency.

HOMER GLEN, IL — The Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago announced a formal administrative review of the financial practices at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Homer Glen, Illinois. The review, undertaken with the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, comes after concerns were raised by parish members and aims to ensure transparency, accountability, and the long-term health of the parish community. Interim leadership has been appointed and parish life, including Divine Services and sacraments, will continue.

An interim Parish Council has been named by His Eminence Metr. Nathanael, and Fr. Soterios Dimitriou has been placed on administrative leave, with Fr. Chris Avramopoulos serving as interim administrative parish priest.

Metr. Nathanael said, “As Metropolitan, I bear a sacred pastoral responsibility for the life and well-being of this parish, as I do for all the parishes of our Holy Metropolis. When concerns are raised, the Church is called to respond not with fear or division, but with humility, prayer, and a sincere desire to seek the truth. While all the facts are not yet fully known, we remain firmly committed to a careful and honest review, to following the truth wherever it may lead, and to restoring trust, so that our stewardship may faithfully reflect the Gospel we proclaim.” The Metropolitan's official address to the parishioners of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church can be found here
