Amb. Guilfoyle Visits Ormylia Monastery, Highlights U.S.-Greek Partnerships
U.S. ambassador praises monastery's humanitarian and medical outreach while recognizing long-standing collaborations between American institutions and the Ormylia Foundation.
HALKIDIKI, GREECE — U.S. Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle visited the Ormylia Monastery and Foundation this week, meeting with its monastic community and volunteers while highlighting decades of cooperation between the foundation and American medical institutions.
During the visit, Guilfoyle met with Abbot Elisaios, Dr. Doumas, Brother Charlie, and Abbess Nikodimi and the sisterhood. She toured the foundation's medical center, which provides diagnostic screenings and other healthcare services alongside the monastery's spiritual ministry.
The ambassador noted that the foundation has maintained long-standing partnerships with U.S. institutions, which includes Georgetown University's Lombardi Cancer Center, the University of Pennsylvania, and Emory University.
"Their work healing bodies through the Medical Center’s life-saving screenings and nurturing souls through faith is a beautiful example of compassion in action," Guilfoyle said. "I am grateful for the partnership between the United States and this extraordinary community."
Previously, the UOJ reported that Amb. Guilfoyle met with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in Athens.
