The parishioners are seeking to raise $325,000 to renovate an 1880s church building and establish a permanent home.

ST. CATHARINES, ONTARIO — Our Lady of Pochaev Orthodox Church in St. Catherines is seeking donations to restore a 1880s historic church building that will serve as its permanent home after nine years of operating without its own property.

The parish has set a fundraising goal of $325,000 Canadian dollars (approximately $234,000 USD) for the first three stages of the project. As of October, it had raised $31,875 Canadian dollars, or about 10% of its target.

The church, located within an active historic cemetery, had sustained damage from years of water leaks, mold, and rodents. Parishioners have already cleared the building, removed damaged materials, and installed a new roof. A long-term lease has also been secured to protect the parish's investment in the property.

The remaining work will be completed in three stages. The first will address structural repairs, electrical work, and drainage. The second will prepare the main church hall through the installation of heating, insulation, drywall, lighting, and fire safety systems. The third will provide washrooms and a kitchen, creating a parish communal space.

Future plans include exterior renovations and the possible construction of a bell tower and domes. The parish is accepting donations toward the restoration. Information about the project and ways to contribute are available at here.
