WHITTIER, CA — The Diocese of Los Angeles and the West of the Antiochian Church in North America held its annual Fall Gathering on Oct. 23-25 at St. Michael Orthodox Church in Whittier, bringing together members of several Antiochian Archdiocese ministries from parishes across California.
Bp. Anthony of Los Angeles and the West presided over the services and activities throughout the weekend. The gathering included Western Rite Vespers and Mass, served by the parish priest, Fr. John Fenton.
Following Saturday’s Mass, Bp. Anthony spoke about the Western Rite’s emphasis on prayer and the Eucharist.
Participants also took part in separate meetings and activities organized by the Antiochian Women, Antiochian Men, Young Adults and Teen SOYO. The Antiochian Women heard a meditation on the Lord’s Prayer from their spiritual adviser, Fr. Paul Baba of Holy Virgin Mary Church in West Sacramento, and held their annual business meeting.
The Antiochian Men heard a presentation by Dr. Charles Ajalat, an Antiochian leader involved in founding several Orthodox organizations. Teen SOYO members participated in a service project for people in need, while young adults discussed plans for future programs.
At the conclusion of the gathering, Bp. Anthony praised the program and host parish, thanking those who had taken part in the weekend.
