Metr. Tikhon Celebrates 60th Birthday

Orthodox Christians across North America celebrated Metr. Tikhon's 60th birthday with prayers of thanksgiving for his years of faithful leadership.

SPRINGFIELD, VA — Orthodox Christians across North America are celebrating the 60th birthday of His Beatitude Metr. Tikhon, Primate of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA), with prayers and well wishes marking the milestone on July 15.

The Holy Synod of Bishops, together with clergy, monastics, and faithful of the OCA, extended birthday greetings to the Metropolitan, praying that God grant him many more blessed years. The Diocese of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania also offered its congratulations on behalf of Abp. Mark, the diocesan clergy, matushki, and faithful.

Born on July 15, 1966, Metr. Tikhon was received into the Orthodox Church in 1989 after being raised in the Episcopal Church. He entered St. Tikhon's Monastery as a novice in 1990 and later served as deputy abbot, bishop of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania, and rector of St. Tikhon's Seminary before being elected primate of the OCA in 2012. He was enthroned as Metropolitan of All America and Canada in January 2013.

To commemorate the occasion, the Diocese of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania published a collection of 60 photographs highlighting His Beatitude's ministry throughout the diocese. The faithful also offered prayers that the Lord grant Metr. Tikhon continued health, wisdom, strength, and many more years of service to the Church.

Previously, the UOJ reported that Metr. Tikhon expressed support for Metr. Onuphry after damage to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
