UOC Deacon Reportedly Forcibly Mobilized in Volyn
UOC Deacon Oleh Rudnychok was reportedly taken from his workplace by Volyn recruitment officers and transported for a military medical examination without his documents being checked.
VOLODYMYR, UKRAINE — According to the First Cossack Telegram channel, officers of the Volyn Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center (TRC) forcibly took Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) Deacon Oleh Rudnychok from his workplace and transported him to a recruitment center for a military medical examination. Rudnychok serves as a deacon at the UOC Dormition Cathedral in Volodymyr. The report said officers approached the cleric at his workplace and ordered him into a minibus.
The channel further alleged that the officers did not check Rudnychok’s documents before taking him away. It reported that he was subsequently transported to the TRC.
According to the report, Rudnychok was being taken to undergo a military medical examination. The circumstances surrounding his detention and whether he possessed documentation establishing an exemption from mobilization were not independently confirmed in the report.
The incident was reported amid continuing concerns among UOC clergy regarding mobilization. UOC Metr. Theodosiy of Cherkasy and Kaniv has previously criticized the mobilization of priests, describing it as a serious threat to the Church’s ability to maintain pastoral ministry.
Previously, the UOJ reported that a UOC priest was detained on the way to a service in Kamianske Eparchy.
