Orthodox Christians For Life Offers Prayers to End Abortion During Dormition Fast

Prayers can be printed off or found on the organization's website.
JULY 31, 2025 — On the eve of the beginning of the Dormition Fast for those on the New Calendar, Orthodox Christians should be aware of an important ministry offered by Orthodox Christians For Life.
"This Dormition Fast, we invite you to join Orthodox Christians across the country in daily prayer for a culture of life," the organization said in a social media post. "Each day, we lift up women in crisis pregnancies, men, abortion workers, lawmakers, and all those affected by abortion - asking Christ to soften hearts and bring healing through His love."

The booklet contains specific petitions that vary for each day of the fast. As Orthodox Christians are called to intensify our prayer life along with our fasting during this time, it is essential to call the pro-life movement to attention as we beseech the Lord and His Mother to guide our nation and cure us of the sinful practice of abortion.
An example of one of the prayers compiled by Orthodox Christians for Life, this one from August 6 - the Feast of the Transfiguration:
"O Lord, Who was transfigured on Mount Tabor, have mercy on us and receive our supplications. Save and protect the souls of the innocent children who are at risk of being aborted today. And as You illumined the night-time with the radiance of your Divine glory, illumine also the darkened hearts of the purveyors of the evil practice of abortion. As You opened the eyes of the apostles and enabled them to behold the truth of Your Divinity, allow abortion practitioners to see the error of their ways, and guide them to Your truth. Grant that we all might recognize our depth of sin and repent, and save us in Your mercy, for You alone love mankind. Amen."

This will be UOJ-USA News Editor Aaron Hickman's second year participating in the Dormition Fast Prayer Vigil to end abortion.
The prayers can be printed off from the organization's website here or simply read online here.
Previously, UOJ reported that this spring, Orthodox Christians for Life sponsored the 5th Annual National Orthodox Baby Shower.
