Metr. Tikhon’s archpastoral visit to Mexico highlighted diocesan growth, pastoral formation, and vibrant liturgical life.
MEXICO CITY — On January 16–19, 2026, His Beatitude Metr. Tikhon made an archpastoral visit to Mexico City at the invitation of His Eminence Abp. Alejo of the Diocese of Mexico. He was accompanied by Archpriest Alessandro Margheritino, Chancellor of the Orthodox Church in America, and Protodeacon Peter Ilchuk. The delegation was formally welcomed upon arrival by Abp. Alejo, diocesan clergy, and faithful.
On January 17, Metr. Tikhon traveled to Hidalgo to participate in the 16th Annual Diocesan Assembly at St. Basil Academy Pastoral College, where clergy and lay representatives gathered from across the diocese. His Beatitude delivered a presentation on the liturgical life of the Christian and observed progress on a new church nearing completion.
The visit concluded with hierarchical services at Holy Ascension Cathedral, the blessing of waters, a festive procession, and the graduation ceremony of the pastoral school’s 2025 class, where Metr. Tikhon encouraged graduates to ground their ministry in love.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Metr. Tikhon designated January 25th as Sanctity of Life Sunday.
