Ukraine Drafts Resolution to Ban Russian-Language Books
Ukrainian officials are advancing plans to remove Russian-language literature from circulation, framing the move as a matter of national security and cultural sovereignty.
KYIV, UKRAINE — Ukraine’s State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting is drafting a resolution that would introduce a formal mechanism for removing Russian-language books from circulation, according to Member of Parliament Solomiia Bobrovska.
Bobrovska said the initiative aligns with plans by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine to prohibit the printing and distribution of Russian and Russian-language literature within the country. The proposed measures are intended to limit what officials describe as the cultural influence of the “aggressor country” amid the ongoing war.
“I believe this decision serves the interests of the state and will deprive the aggressor country of one of its key instruments for spreading hostile narratives,” Bobrovska stated. “Like the Russian Church, Russian literature must disappear from the Ukrainian cultural space. Better late than never.”
If adopted, the resolution would formalize procedures for withdrawing such publications from circulation across Ukraine.
Previously, the UOJ reported that an OCU leader claimed that reports of UOC persecution are Russian disinformation.
