St. George Press Releases Biography of Romanian Hermit John David
A new English biography from St. George Press introduces readers to the hidden spiritual life of Romanian hermit John David.
LOS ANGELES — St. George Press has released a new English-language edition of The Lord Is My Shepherd: The Holy Life of John David the Hermit, a 330-page biography recounting the spiritual journey of a Romanian hermit known for his life of prayer, humility, and devotion.
The book tells the story of John David (1920–1995), who spent years working as a shepherd in the mountains of Transylvania before withdrawing to the hermitage of Strungari. There, he embraced a life centered on prayer, fasting, and spiritual watchfulness, with the Psalter serving as a constant source of inspiration. Although he lived far from public attention, those who encountered him described a man of deep spiritual wisdom and discernment.
Published in English from the original Romanian edition compiled and edited by Hieroschemamonk Ignatius Bozianu of the Kellion of St. Hypatius on Mt. Athos, the volume gathers memories from monks, nuns, priests, physicians, villagers, and pilgrims who knew John David personally. Their accounts present the life of a quiet ascetic whose influence extended beyond his secluded surroundings.
St. George Press describes the book as an opportunity for readers to encounter one of the lesser-known spiritual figures of 20th-century Romania and reflect on the role of prayer, repentance, and humility in the Christian life. The softcover edition is priced at $35.
Previously, the UOJ reported that a new book explores the life of Abp. Anastasios of Albania.
