There is a "Little Jerusalem" in the Heart of America
At Saint Sabbas Monastery in Michigan, the beauty and prayers of the Holy Land are brought to the faithful in America.
“…but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high” (Luke 24:49).
Jerusalem is the holiest city in the entire world, the center of the universe, and the center of our salvation. The Church of the Holy Sepulcher stands as the axis of the Holy City, around which the entire Christian faith and life find their orbit in the paschal mystery of Christ’s glorious and life-giving death, burial, and resurrection. This is the Mother of the Churches of God and the cradle of our salvation. To visit Jerusalem is to stand where our redemption took place – and takes place still. Yet going there is costly and geopolitically challenging.
Of course, one may instead go to the surrounding region of Moscow and visit the “New Jerusalem Monastery,” which beautifully recreates the numerous holy places of the Holy City. However, like Jerusalem itself, travelling to Russia is difficult.
But there is a “Little Jerusalem” much closer to home.
