St. Anthony the Great Church in Montana Raises New Dome
A growing Montana Orthodox parish celebrated the raising of its new dome while welcoming another family into the Church.
BOZEMAN, MT — St. Anthony the Great Orthodox Church of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) reached a major milestone this week as construction continued on its new parish building. Following months of preparation, the parish blessed and raised the central dome for the new church, marking a significant step in the project that began in 2024.
On Sunday, June 28, after the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, Fr. David Morrison blessed the dome before its installation. Despite rainy weather, parishioners gathered in prayer as the community prepared for the dome’s placement. The following Monday, July 6, the dome was lifted and installed on the church structure, bringing the growing parish closer to completion of its new worship space.
The milestone came alongside continued growth at St. Anthony the Great. During the same period, the parish welcomed a family of five as catechumens. Parish records indicate that dozens of people have entered the Church or begun catechumenate in recent months, with 39 catechumens listed in the parish bulletin for early July.
Founded as a mission in 1999 and elevated to full parish status in 2017, St. Anthony’s has become a thriving Orthodox community largely composed of converts. After purchasing land west of Bozeman, the parish built its first worship space in 2014 before beginning construction of the larger church designed to accommodate approximately 350 worshipers.
