Abp. Nikitas Meets U.S. Ambassador Guilfoyle in Athens
Abp. Nikitas and the U.S. ambassador met in Athens to underscore religious freedom and Orthodox diplomatic engagement.
ATHENS, GREECE — Abp. Nikitas of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain met with the United States Ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, during his recent visit to Athens, in a meeting focused on religious freedom, interfaith engagement, and diplomatic relations between the United States and the Orthodox Christian world.
The discussion took place in a cordial atmosphere and included an exchange of views on the role of religious institutions in fostering dialogue and cooperation within modern society. According to statements from the Archdiocese, Abp. Nikitas highlighted the importance of safeguarding religious freedom internationally while also outlining the mission and global work of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Particular attention was given to the “Mother Church of Constantinople” and its role in promoting inter-Christian and international communication.
The meeting also addressed the longstanding relationship between the United States and Orthodox Christian communities, with both sides acknowledging the significance of religious organizations in supporting mutual understanding across cultures. At the conclusion of the conversation, Ambassador Guilfoyle presented Abp. Nikitas with a commemorative gift as a gesture of goodwill and friendship.
