Patr. Bartholomew may be heading to a high-profile Greek wedding after Prime Minister Mitsotakis asked him to officiate at his son’s 2027 marriage.

IMBROS, TURKEY — Ecumenical Patr. Bartholomew has revealed that Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has asked him to officiate at the wedding of his son, Konstantinos Mitsotakis, and Greek tennis star Maria Sakkari in September 2027.

Patr. Bartholomew shared the news during his visit to his native Imbros, where he is marking the 65th anniversary of his ordination to the diaconate. He said the request came during a recent telephone conversation with the Greek prime minister, whom he had called to wish a speedy recovery following a minor bicycle accident.

According to the Patriarch, Mitsotakis asked him to reserve a day in September next year for the wedding. Patr. Bartholomew responded with a lighthearted qualification, saying he would do so “if I am in good health.”

The wedding plans were disclosed as Patr. Bartholomew participates in commemorations marking the anniversary of his 1961 ordination following his graduation from the Theological School of Halki. A festive Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the Metropolitan Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Panagia, Imbros, with the Patriarch concelebrating alongside Patr. Theodore of Alexandria and All Africa and Abp. John of Albania.

Previously, the UOJ reported that the Greek PM urged protection of Orthodox Christians in the Middle East.
