New Biography Sheds Light on St. Tikhon’s Leadership Amidst Triumphs and Trials

Oxford University Press to release first comprehensive account of the Orthodox patriarch’s ministry in North America and revolutionary Russia

New York, NY—A groundbreaking new biography of St. Tikhon (Bellavin) titled, The People’s Patriarch: Tikhon Bellavin and the Orthodox Church in North America and Revolutionary Russia, is now available for pre-order from Oxford University Press.

Written by historian Dr. Scott Kenworthy, the 440-page work draws on newly available archival materials to trace St. Tikhon’s visionary pastoral work in North America and his courageous leadership as Patriarch of Moscow during the early years of Soviet persecution. It promises to be the most comprehensive analysis of the saint's life and work to date.

Executive Director of the Orthodox Studies Institute at St. Constantine College, Matthew Namee, called Kenworthy's new book "a must-read for anyone interested in modern Orthodox history."

The book offers a deep exploration of how St. Tikhon’s humility and faith helped preserve the Orthodox Church through one of its darkest chapters. Shipping begins November 14.
